I received a Western Digital 250 gig hard drive and want to install it in a external USB case. First I put the drive in my computer and booted up. Ran WD's data lifeguard (DOS) but the drive is recognized as a 137 gig drive. Problem must be with Windows ME or my motherboard. Is their an add-on board that will enable my system to recognize the full 250 gigs?

hello
in bios dose it pick this drive up or only in windows?
this drive is wth in the size limets for it to see whole drive.
you might hook this drive up to and xp machine. and use it disk partioning and formating tool to partion the drive in half or thirds at least and it should than be seen. make sure. its formated to fat32 not ntfs.or m.e won,t see it.
the reason i sugested partioning it can see 137 np so it will see more smaller drives.
maby some one else has an idea.••• Resistance is invigorating! •••kill spyware

The new hard drive is only detected in the BIOS, WindowsME does not see it at all. I made another attempt to format the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard and I get a message that says my version of Windows does not support hard drives larger than 137 gig. I like your idea of going to a Windows XP machine and format and partition the drive there. Now I just have to find someone that will let me do such a thing.
Thanks

wawadave, I also meant to say this. Data Lifeguard gave me the option to continue to attempt to format the drive to 250 gigs. I was afraid to try this, did not want to damage the drive. There is no information on the drive, it is completely clean so no information would be lost. Do you think that is worth a try?
Thanks
