Name: David R. Kreiser
This is the "last-attempt"!!! I've gotten nowhere trying to locate System Administrator. So... It's NOT in the BIOS. That means, it's in Windows "ME". And, THAT-MEANS... I can re-install "ME". (Correct???) WOULD DOING THIS RESOLVE THE PROBLEM - OR.... MAKE-IT-WORSE???[!] Right-now, I can't-even access "ADD-REMOVE" in the C/P!(This "SYS-ADM" blocks me!!!) Anyone have thoughts abt. me re-installing Windows "ME" (I have the original C-D/"O-S".)I'd surely appreciate any help! Thanks! DAVE

Put the crack pipe away David. count to 40 in versuvian and start at the beginning, and I do mean the very start. Being descriptive, articulate and as concise as possible.
Do not use CAPS. It's considered rude by most and hard to read by some.
I mean it. Do not use caps when your talking.
Now start the counting ...

Viking... I have never used any form of "stuff". Enuff-said! Wanna know what's wrong??? Ok... I'll tell you (w/o caps!) I wasn't aware that "Tweak UI" couldn't be used w/ "ME". I d-loaded it, then eventually noticed I couldn't access "C-P" apps. Here's the message that appeared: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I can't find/bring-up sys-adm! I want to locate this because perhaps... I can correct this problem there. If-not, then I might consider re-installing Windows "ME". Hopefully, this is sufficient! DAVE

Before you start reinstalling Windows, have you uninstalled Tweak UI via the control panel yet, and rebooted ?
Tweak ui runs just fine on ME. I have it right here next to me.

Before you uninstall tweak ui go into it and hit the "control panel" tab.
Make sure they are all checked. I'm guessing they're not.

Viking... Tweak UI is gone (& rebooted). I got rid of it. You use it??? I've heard it's not for "ME"!(???) The problem is, "Contact your system administrator." Okay, I'll do that. Now... where - is... system administrator??? I've looked at M-soft, other places, files... I must be dense or something. Where the devil is it??? This has me just-abt. nuts! DAVE

You are the system adminstrater as you are the one operating tweak ui !
Your the one who altered the settings in their.
If you cannot get to some control panel options because that message pops up, it means that you have got "however many" items unchecked in the control panel tab.
If that message comes up again (shouldn't do), then reinstall tweak ui and make sure all the things in the control panel tab are checked.
Make sure all the settings are correct (they should be by default).
Then, when all is well. Uninstall it and come away from it.

David, Tweak UI works just fine on Windows...I've always run it since 95.
And, the System Administrator is a person, not an it. So, in this case, that would be you.

Viking & Jen S... Thanks for any help! Viking, I think I'll follow your advice. Jen... I know I'm Sys. Adminis., but, I...(me), must personally change-any-settings (configurations). This... I cannot do, if I cannot find whatever it is I must configure differently! An example: If I want to use e-mail, then I must use an e-mail program!!! Same goes for system administrator. While I'm the person, the application (whatever), is the problem -- not me!!! I need to find that (whatever). And... I don't know where it is!!! That's the reason I'm here! Thanks to all! DAVE

Yes your right David, you need to find out what all the options actually do in tweak ui before you go ahead and use it.
But now you know about the control panel thing you CAN find other settings if you wanted.
Example:
If you wanted to stop Tweak UI giving you that admin error everytime you click on something in the control panel, then you must go in tweak ui and click the "control panel" tab and you must make sure that every option in their has a check mark next to it.If you leave any of them unchecked, lets say "Joy.cpl", when you came to access it via the control panel for real, and you clicked on "Gaming Options" you would recieve that system adminstration error.
If you were to go back in tweak ui and now put a check mark back, next to "Joy.cpl", then the next time you access it via "Gaming Options" in the control panel you would NOT get that system administration error message.
But your right, you need to know what things actually do first before they leave you feeling lost at sea.
If you wanted to David you could go to Start >> Run >> and type, joy.cpl and click Ok.
This will bring up the "Gaming Options" of the control panel. In your case now, it should bring it up perfectly normally without an error message.
Any other problems David, post back.

To ALL who helped... THANKS!!! Now, on to my actual-reason for this message: It-is-corrected!!! NOW... here's the solution: Click "Start", then "Run", then regedit, then click "OK". The registry then opens. Find,HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\[change to -]...Microsoft\[change to -]...Windows\ [change to -]...CurrentVersion\[change to -]...Policies\[change to -]...Explorer Then look for "NO CONTROL PANEL" (on right-side). Highlight-it, then R-click it, & when the menu appears, highlight "Delete", then L-click-it, & "NO CONTROL PANEL" is deleted. Then-reboot!!! I went to Microsoft, & typed-in, Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 274849, & up-came exactly what I needed - & had-done!!! And... I want to thank the fellow (on here), who provided me the info. to go to, enabling me to correct this darned-thing. THANK-YOU!!!!!

David R. Kreiser,
Your question, at the Security forum, gave you a file to download, to do just that. Multiple posting, of the same question, gets things all mixed up
;-)Good luck

Can replicate and fix, via above: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
But never encountered: Can occur if you are running TweakUI, and you have previously clicked to clear the Show Control Panel check box on the Start Menu Settings tab.
Your not left handed and unlucky by any chance are you David ? :D
Glad you got that sorted, good job you posted the alternative fix too ! People who use message boards for their true purpose, exchanging information for everyones benefit will be grateful indeed.

LMAO. The very first sentence in # 1 is bang on the money.
If I'd have seen this further down in # 43583. I'd have saved finger wear.
Naughty, naughty, naughty boy, David. Tsk Tsk. Look forward to your next post though 8-)

David R. Kreiser,
Just a helpful/constructive request, please. Thanks
If you have a question, that you've posted/asked before, and didn't get an answer, that either didn't help, or none at all. Could you Please, put a link to it, on your question, Thanks. That goes, for this forum, or others. That way, people will know what has been tried, and what hasn't. So, they can give you (hopefully) a quick solution/help.
Multiple posting, of the same question in different forums on this site, I do believe, is a no-no. At least, I think I've read that somewhere ;-) Ah Kevin, Justin would be able to set that straight :-)
Yes, I know, sometimes things get people all frustrated/upset. Which can cause a little dismay but, by eliminating some of the frustration that may be caused. It will help, in the long run.
Good luck I'll Try, and don't let the computers win the war :-) And I'll repeat Please & Thanks
