Comment:

Hi,

I removed c:\windows\SYSRNJ.exe file without any prior knowledge in my ME system since it was effected by the I-Worm/verona virus. Now i could not able to open any of programs(hope that file needed)and it is asking me "Locate..." message or "path not found". How can i get that file be replaced. Or any other solution...

Please help me..

bye

:( too soon to joy. It seems that Dave's suggestion helped only for the exe file but not for other files type. such as:
I can't open ZIP file by double clicking only by left clicking them or JPG files also.
The wired thing is that they all lost their Icons now. Help is needed...

Hi guys!
First download this:
http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html
This program will restore the correct "EXE" information into an altered Windows 95/98 Registry.
Make sure that a worm's file SYSRNJ.exe is deleted (from DOS) and replaced with any a copy from REGEDIT.exe (copy REGEDIT.exe as SYSRNJ.exe in \Windows\ folder).
To fix the Registry changes, download blebla_b_rem.reg ( http://www.norman.no/public/blebla_b_rem.reg ) and run the downloaded file by double clicking on it. This will reset most of the keys listed above to their Default settings - some keys will be set to blank. Note that this may not necessarily be the right settings for you, but it will in most cases be better than the values inserted by the worm.

Ok, hey, i tried to fix this sysrnj thing but when I restarted my computer, and when i go to start, most of my little icons of things have the windows sign on a white paper thing. Now whenever i try to open a program i cant because it says: Open With: then there is a bunch of programs to open it with, and when i try to a program and then i click a different program(in the Open With box) and then it doesnt work. One more thing, i tried to download the file to restore sysrnj, and i can't, beacause i don't think you guys don't understand, when i download it, and when it finishes, i can't open it because it says i need the sysrnj file to open it. So i can't download and open anything. So pleasssseeeee help me.

Right then, firstly then reason you all have this problem (And why I also had it) is because you contracted the I-worm Verona virus, so before you do anything scan you system.
Those of you who have already deleted the sysrnj.exe file DONT try finding a replacement 'cos it was part of the virus. The easiest way to fix it is to re-install windows over the top of your current version (Therefore not losing any other progs or info).
Once you have done that run a virus scan and delete all other infected files.
THEN E_MAIL EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK TO WARN THEM THAT YOU MAY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY INFECTED THEM TOO. (Because it speads by auto-mailing all address book entries).
There you go jobs a good'un.
If progs still dont open as they should, select file, rightclick when holding shift, click open-with select program and tick open all file types with this program.

Hope this helps.

www.grisoft.com has a free virus scanner and healer, worked for me :-)

Ok, Here's what I did to fix the problem, took me less than 5 minutes after I found the files reading the posts here... First, download the exefix, I'm not going to list the page here as it is listed above in one of the previous replies, After you have downloaded the exefix, delete sysrnj.exe from your windows directory. Run the exefix.com file. All your executable files should now be fixed but the other files should be still messed up (I.E. looking for sysrnj.exe) Next, get the registry entry,
http://www.norman.no/public/blebla_b_rem.reg.
After you get the registry entry you're almost done. Seeing as how you can't run the registry file because it asks for sysrnj.exe to open it, simply make a copy of regedit.exe in your windows directory. Rename this copy to sysrnj.exe. Now when you try to open a program it will detect sysrnj and use the file you just renamed. That's not the end though, now that you have a copy of regedit.exe renamed to sysrnj.exe, open the registry file and click yes when it asks to add it to your registry. Voila, You're finished. All/most of your files should be working, all you have to do is go through editing your registry to set up icons. If you don't know how to fix your icons via regedit, Now's the time to learn =) Hope this helps, and Merry Christmas.

Btw, make SURE the original sysrnj.exe is deleted before you run exefix.com or else it won't do anything =)

If anybody can help me on this one I will kiss your feet.

I got rid of this Verone/Sysrnj/Romeo virus (whatever you want to call it). While it was wreaking havoc, it added the ".exe" extension to several of my zip files.

Now I can't open many of those zip files, even with the virus gone.

My zip program is Winzip, and everytime I try to open my stuff I get the error message: "Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading it again."

The problem is I didn't download it, it's zipped files of my life's work...poetry, screenplays, lyrics and the like.

Please help if you can!!! I'd be eternally grateful. My life is at stake. I'm running Windows XP, by the way.

Thanx,

David Kelsey

The files that you ran while infected weren't simply renamed to *.exe, Their content was completely changed. Their content became a copy of the sysrnj.exe file and the original information was erraticated. Files lost in this manner, are beyond recovery to my knowledge (Albeit, my knowledge is very limited ^_^ ) I know this isn't a solution, and I'm not trying to dash your hopes, but I'm telling you what i've discovered... So far anyway, If I manage to find a way to recover the lost files, I'll be sure to post it...
