Comment: Hi, I'm considering switching from Windows Me to XP. I currently have one HD with ME and all my desired files, and another that is virtually blank. My question is, if I install XP on my second blank HD, and then insert both HDs with the XP drive as the master and the Me as the slave, can I still access all of my Me files in FAT32 format when I'm running XP? Also, to confirm, it would automatically load XP if it were the master drive, unless I configured something ilke Bootmagic to let me switch b/w OS's. And iF I were to install bootmagic and boot to Me with my XP drive still connected, all XP files would be unreadable by Me, correct? Thanks for your help.

Reply: (edit)that's "I sucks in my opinion" yes, a choice between windows ME and XP XP all the way BABY! yes, XP reads and can be installed on a disk with fat32 format. I dual-boot and have XP on a FAt32 drive and can access the XP drive from windows 98. I prefer dual booting with 98 because it too is better than Windows ME. especially when you have XP. Reply: (edit)would be nice to know what system your planning to installing xp on. My p3 733mhz 512mb sdram runs like a turtle with xp compared to ME.[clean install-no software] If you have a current system you might have better luck.

Yes, XP can read FAT, FAT32, and NTFS partitions so that will be no problem. Also you do not need boot magic; XP has it's own boot loader. I strongly recommend getting rid of ME altogether though; there's not much reason to keep it as most anything that runs in ME will also run in XP. If you need to run anything that doesn't I would dual boot with 98 instead of ME so you'll have true DOS support. Definately XP is a good upgrade though. :)

Reply: (edit)ShutMeUpOrDown, my XP runs smooth as silk on a P3 850 with 256MB of RAM. Make sure you have compatible drivers, and turn off all the services you do not need, especially automatic updates and that system restore junk. If it still runs slow turn off the visual styles service.
