First off,is it even worth defragging a swapfile?I have read that w/enuff RAM,you can disable Virtual Memory, defrag in "Safe Mode",reboot to normal mode, enable VM...Swapfile defragged. Also read that disabling VM could cause a crash.
I've also read that you can delete the swapfile, reboot, and windows will recreate it.I am wondering, though, will it be recreated to last known state, original configuration,or even defragged?
Thanx for any input...

You'll probably get as many different answers as you get people posting.

IMHO

a) Do not disable VM.
b) Set VM to 2x memory
c) Make it a fixed size, i.e., set min and max to same value.
d) If you use Norton's Speed Disk or McAfee's defragmenter, they will put the swap file on the fastest part of the disk. Unfragmented. (You can download trialware to do this; I haven't used McAfee, but since Norton is so hard to thoroughly uninstall, you might want to try that one. You only have to do that once, because one it's moved, Windows Defrag will not move it.)

Two reasons for a fixed size: once its set up, it's always contiguous, and will never be fragmented as it can be with it by letting Windows do it; and it keeps Windows from constantly resizing it. Nontheless, some will say let Windows do it anyway. Mine is set up the way I described and I'm happy with it.

I currently have it set to 3x my Ram.Tried, after,as you mentioned,2-2.5x...but when I ran PCPitstop, said that was too low.3x seems to work fine 4 me.You are certainly on target when you say there's alot of conflicting suggestions on these settings.Almost everyone I've read has been a 'lil different.
Thanx
