Starting this morning, my computer has been stuck in some kind of safe mode-like state. Everything on the screen is larger than normal and the colors are messed up. I have tried shutting down, restarting, switching into safe mode and switching back, etc., but nothing has worked. I went to settings, and saw that the color setting is on 16 and the resolution is 640 x 480. I have tried several times to change these, but when I do it says I have to restart my computer, and after I do that eveything is the same way as before. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My computer did the same thing about a month ago. I would use a system restore point and restore to an earlier date but there may be a better way to deal with this so I would not do that unless I had to. I didnt have any restore points and I was so angry that I just erased everything and started over which I do not reccomend.

My neighbor's PC is doing exactly the same thing......plus his mouse "disappeared" and the volume is stuck on high! I was able to get the mouse back by reinstalling it, but can't get the display to recognize anything but 16 colors. I change it to 256, reboot, but it doesn't "take". Frustrating!!!

I also tried system restore a few hours ago, but that didn't help.

Right click My Computer/properties.
Go to Device Manager and roll back the video driver.
You may also want to see if you can download an updated driver for your monitor from the manufactures web site.

stump this is not xp! this is the second xp advice for m.e you gave i saw so far. close but not quite.
you can remove the device or update the driver no roll back in m.e.but to the people with the problem. goto device manager and remove vidio and reboot.
if that dont work if you have a vid card goto makers sight d/l m.e compatable driver.
have a nice day
