Comment:

The re-sizing windows symbols in the upper right hand of my windows and the pull-down menu arrows in my toolbars have been replaced by numerical symbols. Many website fonts (including the ones on your website) have become almost illegible.

Naturally, I am hoping for a quick fix! =)

Caroly00, SWAG (may be way offbase), sounds to me like you are looking at things using a wierd font. Take a look at settings in IE (or whatever program you are using to see things) and see if you can select another font.
HTH.

Thanks, Ed, but the problem's even worse than I thought: when I open up any application, Word, Adobe Illustrator, the computer doesn't recognize any of my fonts, even though they are still in the font folder.

Aargh!!!

Here are two sources of information that may help. Cut and paste these into your address bar in IE. Easier than typing them out. Each is a single line although they may be wrapped on this forum.

Thanks, Herb.

I tried everything and still no sign of life. Sigh.

Someone is coming over to fix it today. But thanks anyway: it's the first time I even used DOS! I live in Taiwan and speak only rudimentary Chinese, so I can never understand what they do when they fix the computer, but if I find out, I'll let you know.

Hi Herb and Ed, it's fixed! The solution:

1. turn on the hidden files
2. do a file search and find "ttfcache"
3. delete "ttfcache"
4. restart computer and while it is booting up keep hitting "F8" key to prevent it from opening Windows
5. start the computer in Safe Mode to bypass startup
6. restart once again and voila!

Of course I have no idea what it's all about, but it works. Thanks for all your support. =)
