Comment:

I keep getting this error while playing the game Baldur's Gate II.

ER : OE : 0028 : FF19C8C3

From that point, I have to hit the reset button to reboot, as the computer completely locks up.

Does anyone know where that error points too? The error started after I updated my sound drivers in response to sound problems in the game. So I'm not sure if this is some kind of compatability problem or something entirely different.

Computer specs:

AMD Athlon 1100 MHz
128 MB RAM
S3 ProSavage 8 MB
SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
Direct X 8.0
Windows ME

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1st. Get more RAM. Baldur's takes a lot of resources I believe (yes I know memory is only a part of the total resources calculation), but you really should run ME with at least 256 RAM. As cheap is RAM is today, it shouldn't be a problem.
2nd. Make sure only what you need to run is running in the background. Go to MSCONFIG and do that... If you need more info on how, look at any of the other posts on the subject.
3rd. Make sure that you have any and all Patches for the game from the manufacturers site. For that matter, make sure that you have all the current drivers for your hardware.

I also was getting crashes and my system frezzing up when playing some games. After installing additional RAM to a total of 256MB and installing a graphics card 32MB. All games so far have worked without any problem. The advice on going to the system configuration utility is also correct . To access it click on Start/Run/ type MSCONFIG when the system config box appears , click on start up tab . Eliminate unneeded programs from your start up will help keep you user resources up. Thru some trial and error , you can find out which programs you can safley remove from start up ! Good Luck

Have a look here to get games running well in Win Me. You especially need to keep your 4 in 1 chipset patches up to date if you have VIA - see point 10
