I noticed that my CPU would be running at about 5-9 % until I shut this thing down. (Used Norton System Doctor to monitor) After turning off STIMON - 0%. My Visioneer 8100 USB scanner seems to work fine without STIMON.exe. I was wondering if anyone else noticed the system drain by this thing even when it's not doing anything. Also, why do you suppose my scanner works without it.

i have found that if you eant to use norton utilities, the only way is to do a custom install and only install the following, windoctor, diskdoctor, speeddisk, registry editor and optimizaition wizard. the rest are useless and will slow you down or cause a crash.

I've had a similar problem with stimon. Soon after starting it, my system will begin having annoying "pauses", lasting a little less than a second, every ten seconds or so. The longer I leave it running, the more frequent they get. Plus, there is a file in the Windows/Temp directory called sti_debug.log that gets bigger every few seconds until I shut it off. We're talking a couple of megabytes in 24 hours! Unfortunately, unlike you, I can't use my camera without it, so I have to start it manually and use ctrl-alt-del to shut it down when I'm finished. Annoying...
