When i startup i get this message,. and have tried to resolve this , with know luck...
"Unable to dynamically load nprotect vxd because the file symevent.386 is either not loaded or to old.please run sevinst.exe.the latest can be downloaded from our ftp site. see the readme file for more info."BUT after going to symantics web site all they want to do is sell me some more anti-virsus protection that can`t be installed from there disk already.ANY IDEAS OR links will be appreciated .......lost w/o anti-virus

If you have the disk, uninstall than
reinstall and run live update.
Had to that after system restore.
You said any ideas, hope it helps.

I have the same problem on old computer. It is uninstalled but on boot gives me an error message stating I must reload norton to fix the problem.
it will not let me get any further either.
On top of it my disk drive is gone, kapoot, so I was trying to reformat in safe mode as the compute will boot in safe mode. Have only tried one scanreg /restore command at the safe mode dos prompt.
I was wondering if u could do from safe mode dos prompt everything w/o your disk drive such as reformat/partition and fdisk /mbr command and will it work as if tru does.
Any suggestionsxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxhelp.

I just recently had a problem with my Norton Anti-Virus also . I kept recieveing the eror on bootup " cannot initiate virus scanning data base" after Windows would finish loading , I would try and run a scan . I would recieve as error stating that my virus definitions could not be located. I went into explorer and my virus definitions where there? I tried all kind of fixes and like you symantec wanted to sell me a upgrade. I would try reinstalling Norton over itself, to no avail. Finally I found that by completly uninstalling Norton , including the virus definitions , deleting the registry entry. Only then was I able to get Norton back up and runnig. Good Luck ,Nick
