Comment:

After installing a game for my son, I could not get Windows to restart (regular or safe mode). A message is displayed that states "please wait while windows updates your configuration files..." and it gets stuck there.

We have one of those slim tip Vaio desktops, which, for some ungodly reason, do not have a floppy drive.

I was able to boot from the System Restore CD, but the only option was to restore to factory specs and I would really prefer not to lose all of our files.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that will allow me to fix this problem without doing a full system restore.

Thanks for the response. The problem is that Sony does not provide a back-up CD for the OS. They only provide a "System Restoration CD", which restores the system to the way ot was delivered from the factory. Any other suggestions?
