Comment:

When I click the Start button & select run (I have msconfig in the box) and click OK the System Configuration Window appears for about a half-second and then just goes away. It works okay in Safe Mode. This is a new phenomenon -- any ideas?? Thanks to all!

Does the same happen if you try to run
Regedit?

This is usually a symptom of a Virus or
Spyware infection.

hello nut4trains;
what could be causing this problem is,
if you downloaded any new programs lately remove them and see if it works ok.
if not restore the programs you uninstalled.
some new programs can cause conflicts like this...

Hi! Thanks for the responses. Keith, the same thing happens with regedit. I have AVG anti-virus which is up to date and scans every night. It reports no viruses found. As for spyware protection, I used to have Spybot S&D but there was a problem with it, not unique to me because I read about it on their forum, so I ended up uninstalling it since it never found any problems. Right now I'm just using the AOL spyware protection. Coly, I did download a trial version of a game from Pogo earlier in the week so I'll get rid of it and see if that helps. Thanks again for your answers!

keith is right it could also be a spyware problem do a complete virus scan if that dosen,t work you will need to download adaware or spybot before using these after downloading them click the update button to get the latest definition files. its good to have both of them...if that dosen,t work
do this; but be careful, click the start button click run type regedit then click the plus sign for hkey current user go down and

click the plus sign on software then go down and click the plus sign on microsoft go down
again and click windows then current version
then internet settings then p3p when that opens click history, in here remove all rubish.
you might be surprised what you see in here
but do be carful only delete the rubbish in this particular area which is history.
best wishes
