You probably pulled the cable out of the primary IDE controller. Check your cables.

Look at the device manager and see if the drive has a red X listed when you expand the listing for it(it may be already expanded with red X) ? This would tell you that you are having a either a hardware or driver problem with this device. To access device manager, right click on My computer ,then click on properties ,then device manager ! Usally the drives are listed first .You can also try remove using device manager ,and upon reboot ,the system may reinstall the hardware for you ? Or course ,the prior advice you recieved on checking all the connections first, would be correct. Then the procedure I just described would be the next step.
Good Luck, Nick

DON'T SHOUT - - and now you know.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

I think you mean Master & Slave.

These are set by a little jumper at the back of each CD drive. The main thing is to ensure that they are not "both" set to either Master or Slave.

Computers usually come with two IDE controllers:

IDE1 (Primary)

IDE2 (Secondary)

... *each* controller can have 1 master & 1 slave drive

The 'primary master' is usually the C: drive

Maybe this will help
