If you right click these items that pop up on the Favorites tab on the Start Menu and then delete them, are they gone or are they also stored somewhere else? They just P!$$ me off; why are they even there?
Are these puppies put on there by the install, just pop on, or what? Any way from stopping them from showing up there?

Do you mean the folders containing shortcuts trying to get you to sign up for internet service or sending you to shopping sites?
Just delete them - they'll be sent to the recycle bin. You can restore them later, if you like.
All the items in the Start-Favorites menu are kept in a folder: c:\windows\favorites. Go look there and you'll see all the shortcuts.
These are installed by HP when they install the OS. If you were to use your restore CD that came with your computer, you would see the favorites return to the way it was when you first turned the machine on.
