Rona a little more info about your system would help. If perhaps run a compaq you can do a selective restore restoring only your soundmax drivers. Did you try system restore restoring to a date before you uninstalled the drivers?

all compaq software and drivers can be downloaded from the following compaq site:

you need to identify your machine problem to get to the right driver types. read carefully and good luck.
