Couple of months ago had total system failure (BSOD) had to reinstall windows. Since reinstalling my sound has been crackling and distorted. I use MusicMatch Jukebox and Windows Media player, both worked fine before meltdown. The sound also crackles and distorts for all sound on the PC e.g. e-mail alert etc, not just music/media. It also crackles and distorts when playing CD's and DVD's.
I'm no expert and have tried all I know including Control Panel/Sound&Multimedia setup which all seems fine.

One thing I can think of is...

Did you buy a soundcard aftermarket and install it in your computer?

Sometimes computers come with onboard sound devices, and if those drivers are present, or the onboard sound is not disabled in your system BIOS, then you'll get a crackling noise from having two sound devices that are operational.

Other than that, I am no expert either. You may want to try reinstalling the device by removing it from your device manager, and/or uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers for it.

Hopefully, if this doesn't help, someone else will provide a fix.

Good luck, Red.

You probably installed the wrong drivers for the sound card.
Make sure you install right drivers. The sound will be Ok.
