Comment: How do I reinstall the sound player/volume control from the WinMe disk? Seems that I somehow deleted it. When I go to Control Panel/Sounds, there is no sound volume slider. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Tried that. I've managed to recover the SNDVOL32.exe file, but sound still doesn't work. It's not the sound card. The volume slider on Control Panel/Sounds & Multimedia won't even highlight. Any more help?

Reply: (edit)I have had the problem of no sound. The volume control was gone and MP3 players couldn't detect a sound card. After multiple calls to HP, a new CPU unit, a reinstalling drivers for the sound card. The problem was a fault with the HP Pavillions. ( I haven't had the problem since so I can barely remember the BIOS menus) I sorted the problem by entering BIOS (pressing F11 on bootup when the HP screen appears) Then finding the 'On-Board Audio Options' option (under advanced something, lol) and changing the option to 'Auto'. Everytime I had an improper shutdown the option would turn back to 'Disable'. Hopefully this will help.
