I recently got a new computer, and there is a constant low level buzzing/distortion noise, which is ignorable when i'm using speakers but becomes a major problem on headphones, because they amplify the sound.the computer is a hp pavillion 7845(866mhz, 128 RAM). The sound driver is crystal WDM audio codec, i think the sound card is a brio, but the hp page for this model line was down when i went to the site, and i couldn't find anything in the documentation that came with it.
facts about the buzz:
-the volume of the buzz doesn't react to a change of any volume controls
-it seems to only exist in windows (entering a dos based program gets rid of it)
-the buzz will cease momentarily in the following cases: while saving a file, while dragging a window, while scrolling a window, while minning or maxing a window
-the buzz cuts its loudness level when dragging an icon around the desktopI really need to get rid of the buzz, as i use my computer for lots of sound apps, the the noise is quite distracting. I'd really appreciate any help.

It sounds like electrical noise from within your system is being converted into the buzz on your sound. Are you using a surge protector that has a line filter? Also, if you bring up your sound card's mixer, mute out all sources except those that you know for sure are there.

I have the same model computer, and don't have that sound problem. CAll tech support. If you complain loud enough, they'll replace the computer. They can also direct you through removing ghost drivers in safe mode, in case there is a problem with the sound driver.
