July 18, 2010 at 20:09:43
Specs: Windows XP Service Pack 3
I'm having a problem where the boxes in my audio section are grayed out. I also have the following drivers located in my "sound, video, and game controllers":

audio codecs
legacy audio/video devices
media controller devices
usb audio device
video codecs

the volume control is not shown in my taskbar, no sound comes from my speakers, and i diagnosed the problem and it tells me i dont have default settings selected but the boxes are grey so i cant select the default programs

You need to install the audio drivers.

Well, as post #2 suggested, by the looks of things your PC is lacking audio drivers.

There are 2 simple ways you can go about this

-->OEM Drivers<--
If your PC is a manufacturer made one (AKA Dell/ACER/Toshiba...ect) then it is likely that they distributed drivers on their website's or supplied you with a driver CD.

Installing the drivers from those sources should be pretty straightforward

-->Alternate Drivers<--
If you cannot find the drivers CD for your computer, and cannot find the drivers on the web another way is to use a "Driver search tool".

Driverguide have a tool avalible (dont know how well it works, only used it twice) that searches for drivers, and could possibly find one for you.
