I have a computer with an AC'97 soundcard. The audio is very squeaky and I do not know how to fix this. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, and turning down the 'accelaration' but it still does the same. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thankyou,
Robbie

It's possible the card is going bad. Have you considered purchasing a new one?

You might want to install/reinstall DirectX9.

AC97 is onboard intergrated sound and many, like you have had problems with it. My P3 750 MHZ came with AC/97 intergrated sound and from the start I had sound problems ! Sometimes sound ,most of the time no sound .I had online support that came with my warranty on the PC ,and they could not get it so it always worked, we would think we had it working and then again , I would bootup and no sound. It got the the point that I would have had to box it up and ship it back . My only other option was installing a PCI sound card ,a neighbor of mine suggested it ,telling me that you could buy sound cards that are very affordable and they are also very easy to install, by following instructions it comes with ! I deciced to try that and sure enough after installing a Sonic Impact S90 sound card by Diamond and I have never had a sound problem again in five + years !
Good Luck Nick

'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly'. Its a built in soundcard so i have no idea how to find out who made it. It hasnt been working for 2 days. Can someone help me out? If i need to re-install it, could you tell me how please.
Thanks in advance.
