sound dosnt work through cdrom

ok so when i put a cd in i cant get any sound but when i play music that is already on my computer it works just fine! any idea?

Make sure the CD audio isn't muted. Right click on the volume icon, then click Open Volume Control

There's a 4-pin analog audio output connection on the rear of the cdrom as well as 4-pin cdrom input connection on the sound card or motherboard. The cable to make that connection usually comes with the cdrom but can be purchased just about anywhere. Usually WMP, winamp and other players don't need the cable but often the default windows cd player does.
