Presumably you have checked all the physical connections?

1. Are there any problems in Device Manager (right click My Computer|Properties|Device Manager, look for yellow exclamation marks)?

2. After you installed Me, did you update your audio drivers? Boot into Safe Mode. Remove anything to do with sound from Device Manager, reboot and let Windows detect your hardware and reinstall the Soundcard drivers (if you have your drivers disk, use that or download the latest drivers from the Soundcard's manufacturers website).

3. Run DirectX diagnostics, (Start|Run|dxdiag|Music tab) and test the ports, hear anything, any messages?

4. Do you have the Volume Control icon on the taskbar? Check wav and midi files are checked to play and volume turned up.

5. In Control Panel|Sounds & Multimedia, check out Properties of the installed components - Any messages like "Driver is enabled but inactive owing to an unknown problem"?

Post back. Good luck.

MY ME HATES my sound card and I had to play with irq settings (moving around some that were already taken). I want to believe there is a less intrussive way of doing it but it worked for me.
