I recently upgraded to ME and my sound card will not work. I have tried 2 different sound blaster 16 cards and drivers but still won't work. One will play windows sounds but no music from cdrom. Rom will play games with sound but patchy. Do I need to purchase a newer card? Please help!

Newer card (Sound Blaster Live with ME specific Liveware) would certainly help. What are your system specs? Can you tell me what IRQs your sound card is using and if anything else is sharing with it?

Look at www.windrivers.com
for the driver for you sound card. If you can't find a Win ME driver use a 9X driver (it should work) After you install a new driver. Run the directX setup test. That might fix your problem.

How about looking in the device manager, and disabling the "SB16 emulation" hardware. There's a way to do it in DOS too, to be found here : http://www.icrontic.com/faqs/kt7faq/faqsound.html

Good luck.
