Hi,
I have problems with WindowsME.
The configuration is a Spacewalker/Shuttle HOT-597 mainboard with a VIA-MVP3 chipset, a AMD K6/2 400MH processor, 64 MB ram, a SIS6326 AGP video-card and a Terratec 128I PCI soundcard.
In Windows98 I have no problems at all.

After a format of the C-drive I begin a clean and full install of WindowsME without a sound card installed. After that I installed the 4in1via-drivers version 4.24a (the latest on there site).

Than I try to install a sound card (the Terratec 128I PCI or a Soundblaster 64 both cards give me the same problems). After the installation of the drivers (for the Terratec the latest drivers on there site, and for the Soundblaster the drivers from WindowsME) I have the following problems. Or the system blocks completely, or the system restarts automatically or there is a repeating sound. But I have no working WindowsME.

I tested and installed WindowsME with those 2 soundcards on an other mainboard and there I had no problem. (a Tekram P5MVP-A4 mainboard with a VIA-MPV3 chipset, a AMD K6/2 450 MH processor, 128 MB ram, a i740 compatible video-card).

I suspect that the problem is in the Via-mainboard drivers, but here are no newer drivers for WindowsME available on the Via website.

Does someone have the same problems or is there a work-around for this problem.

Thanks for the help.

Willy Hendrickx.

Hi Willy, have a similar deal. I upgraded from win95 to winMe yesterday and never thought to upgade my Ensonique drivers 1st. So I suspect WinME didn't recognize and overroad everything so now all my cd's are being played on the damn media player. which bumps and squekd spits and whines with nearly every keystroke.
I want my cd player back!!!
Through the control panel I got ME to find a creative sound labs driver and I did get update from ensonique and installed it twice and i've been farting around with it as best i know how but it seems to me that the media player has completely taken over.

I had the same problems with Win98 and ess solo-1 pci soundcard. I solved the promblen like this:
set the values of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\MEDIA\0000\Config
\AddDEVICE=ESSOLO.SYS
from "ff" to "00"
and
\Add DOS Emulation
fom "01" to "00"
and
\Add ESSOLO.COM To Autoexec.bat
fom "ff" to "00"
and delete in config.sys the line
device=c:\essolo.sys
and delete in autoexec.bat the line
c:\essolo.com
and delete in c:\windows\dosstart.bat thr line
c:\essolo.com

thats all.
good luck
