Hi

Every time I go on-line and try to play audio
or sound is involved for more than 20secs a high-pitched whine noise obliterates eveything!

I have tried different speakers; Windows ME critical updates; all to no avail!

This problem Does not occur if I stay off-line. However if it starts on-line the only way to get rid of it is to re-boot.

Trying to play the cd audio creates the same effect on-line.

I've also tried different ISP's no improvement.

This problem seems to have got the 'experts' at Evesham.com computers stumped - It all stated after a failed motherboard was replaced!

Any help; ideas; options would be very gratefully received. Heeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllpppppppppppp!!!

Many thanks

Graham Campion

Try going into the Volume Controls and muting things like Modem, Speakerphone,... It sounds similar to something I ran across and that was the fix. Make sure that you have all of the controls available in the Options|Properties.

Good Luck

Boot into safe mode...go to CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/DEVICE MANAGER...double click SOUND & MULTIMEDIA...if the same device is listed more than once, remove ALL of the listings for that device...when you reboot, Windows will reinstall it. While you're there, you might as well go right down the list....double click CDROM...if your device is listed, go on to the next one, DISK DRIVES...and so on...make sure that your hardware is only listed ONCE!
