Some programs (primarily Microsoft Word, McAfee Virusscan Online updates and my ATI TV Tuner) have recently stopped working on my PC. As far as I can tell, this began after downloading some Windows Updates from the official site - I think I may have downloaded some drivers that I didn't need. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programs, but this has no effect. The PC just freezes when I try to open them. With Word, it keeps telling me that the system is "dangerously low in resources", and then freezes. I have recently installed "Morpheus" on the PC (which I have now removed), which I have heard used spyware that can seriously slow down the PC, but I can't find any of the offending files on my PC. Any ideas?

Oh boy.... Start with a virus scan but NOT while Windows is running. Go to the PC Cillin site and download the rescue disk maker. Get a box of floppies and run the program to make the disks then use them. Do this from a CLEAN machine. Then download adaware and spybot and run them after. Good luck, Jimi_l

MMmmmm SpyBot and AdAware These 2 are very proactive. be careful what you delete. they are both pretty good at telling you whats REALLY nasty.

Thanks for your help. I have tried all your ideas and the result is that McAffee is now working again as normal, but the other things aren't, and in addition, I cannot anymore send emails with Outlook Express (although I can receive them). Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this machine??????

Well Win ME isn't helping the situation but yave you tried uninstalling and reinstalling OE (you should copy your email messages you want to keep to another directory first) and word now that the system is clean?
