Evertime i start my puter I get a SMART FAILURE error, warning me to backup my data because my HD may fail.
But when i run a Scan disk (thur) it says no problems.
Does anyone know of a free Program prog that i can dwnload and check my HD????
ThankS
Buddy

I don't know of such a program, but based on my experience smart failure is a sign that your hard drive may go soon (mine did eventually). To be safe, start backing up your data.

most manuafacturers have a diagnostic utility
available at their support download site,
and western digital has an online one athttp://support.wdc.com/dlg/onlinedlg.asp
but it's better to download the one made for your drive, such as powermax for maxtor and quantum.
data lifeguard tools for western digital.
seatools
for seagate, also have an online diag program.
search http://www.google.com/
for your hard drive manufacturers site, if not one of the above.

I found that my hard drive was not SMART compatable and so I disabled the SMART in the BIOS over two years ago. The hard drive hasn't failed (yet) but I make frequent back ups just in case.
