I'm having a problem with my computer in which I'm having problems when I try to open up a web page. I have DSL, but for the past few days I noticed that as I surf through web pages they tend to open normal and then after a few pages they start opening slower and slower to the point that none of the pictures or graphis download, but the text will appear. On the bottom of the screen there is a window that shows how many items are downloading. Usually, the numbers will decrease rapidly, but now they go from, let's say, 89 items and countdown fast, then start slowing down and stall at 10 or 5 items, thus causing the page to not fully download or open. I try to refresh, but it repeats the same thing and stalls at the same number as it did before. Also, the cursor starts to flutter instead of flash to the point that it almost disappears off the screen. To get the pages to download, I have to restart the computer, but the same thing happens within 5 minutes of surfing. I have tried to look for info on the web that might help me troubleshoot this, but I have had no luck.
Here's what I have done to try to aliviate this, without luck. I have cleared out the temporary cookies and folders. I have refragmented the disk and have run a test to see if I have any viruses, which came up negative. I also have uninstalled and reinstalled Internet Explorer 6, but the same thing still occurs. I checked the computer online performance and it is running at 73%, so I don't know what is causing this slowness. I had Verison check my DSL and they said everything was fine from what they could see. I don't know what I may have done to cause this, so I'm really getting quite frustrated. If there is any advise someone can give that may be causing this and how to fix it, I would appreciate it.
I have a HP Pavilion 6803 and run Windows ME.

If you have a dial up modem check if the download is normal. If it is then your problem is isolated to the dsl settings [or hardware problem like bad connectors and splitters] Also try removing dsl drivers and reinstalling without making any tweaks or changes in settings. With any dsl provider you should easily get 90 kbps or more on a 128 kbps access without any changes or tweaks.
Do these following which is necessary anyway even in normal circumstances.
Clean up the registry [I use jv16powertools and RegSeeker...pls backup before cleaning just to be safe]Also you can clean up the dat file in Cookies folder. Make a search here for Delindex and get the download link and instructions...pretty simple to use.
And clean up any adwares in your system.[ I use Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy]
You can get the website address for the above tool by making a search on google.

Try working through the list of checks and changes in Windows ME Fixes page.
It sounds just like Automatic Updates kicking in or ADware/Spyware. Do you have all of your Windows ME and IE Security Updates installed from the Microsoft Update site?

d/l spybot S&D at http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
Make sure you do an on-line update and then run it. When it's done (the 1st time may take quite awhile because your PC will be full of spy and adware)
You'll see lots of items with red exclamation marks next to the. Next click on the bottom where it says fix the problems. That will get rid of the spyware and your PC will run alot faster.
Post back if this helps ok?
