Try this;
>Windows Explorer will usually try and cache DLL's by keeping them in memory even after the application using them has been closed. This can cause performance problems on low memory systems, and can be annoying when the DLL's remain in use.

Open your registry and find the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer].

Create a new sub-key named 'AlwaysUnloadDll' and set the default value to equal '1' to disable Windows holding the DLL in memory.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Registry Settings:
Key:HKLM\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AlwaysUnloadDLL]
Value Name: Default
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Data: (1 = enable)

Iam very interested in trying the registry entry described above! I have never entered a new registry key B/4 , and am rather on edge, that I may do something wrong ! Can you give a more step by step directions on how to make the change on releasing the DLL's from memeory. This is not the frist time I've read that doing this can improve your performance in WinMe. I already pasted your other directions to clipboard and copied it to notepad, Thanks Nick

Gerri,

If you don't want to do the registry. Go to

http://www.xteq.com

and download Systems X-Setup. Install it and at "[+]System">>"[+]Memory" Then click "General Memory Settings" Check "Unload DLLs directly" Then click "Apply Changes" close or exit X-Setup and do what it says to do.
