I have had this computer for about 5 years. It has worked well until now. I get the blue screen of death regularly, and it is very slow! Sometimes when I am doing something on it, it would lock up and get extreamly slow. I would open the close screen (CTRL, ALT and DELETE) and it would say so and so programs are not responding. This is happening often now. I have DSL and Norton 2005 anti-virus.

Anyone know how to speed it up? Would it help it I did a full system format, then reinstalled the ME disk. I also wanted to upgrade some of the components so it would be faster, and be able to run XP or VISTA. Any suggestions or advice?

slowest computer in the world.

Yes up the memory and ditch Norton, it is a resource hog. Also you need to clean up PC:

The following 3 free software will suffice:

Lavasoft Adaware - removes malware etcetc

Grisofts AVG Free - Anti-Virus

CCleaner - removes temp files, cleans out registry etcetc

For blue screen of death - if you have a spare monitor, connect to it and see whether you still get the blue screen. If no, your 1st monitor is end of life.

For slow as a snail - do harddisk defrag then download the softwares which stated by Walter Mitty to clean the harddisk and then defrag it.

After you delete all your junk files and use all your registry cleaners, go to Start /Run and enter C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.EXE /fix /opt

I would do the following

Run scan disk

Run disk defragmentation

download and run ccleaner from cleaner.com

then run any spyware and adware scans you have

then download AVG free edition virus scan and run it

when you look at your taskbar on start up how many icons do you see ??

to many running programs will slow down ANY computer
