I just received a purchase I made on Ubid for a "Slimline" Hewlett Packard DVD Player. I felt fortunate to get the DVD well off the regular purchase price (lists for $259.00.) My winning bid was $49.00.

The problem I'm having is that the DVD drive does not fit in my regular bay openings on my tower. The picture the auction site showed was shown to be a full size DVD package that had a slim disk tray. Is there any kind of hardware that can be purchased so that this DVD player will fit in a "normal" CD opening. I want to keep the unit as I'm interested in DVDs but I don't know how to make this fit.

If any of you have had any experience with this, I sure would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Steve Bell

I'm not sure what you mean by "Doesn't fit" Exactly what is wrong in terms of size. I was under the assumption that these days things were kindda standard as far as device and bay size.

A thought....

If you mean the DVD drive is half the height of a normal drive bay you may find a half size bay cover if you are very lucky. Or you can make one yourself using an old bay cover and some carefull modding. Are you sure this DVD is ment for a normal PC? Maybe it is for a notebook or some off the wall PC. Just a few thoughts. Hell, if you don't want it or can't get it to work I'll buy it off you for $60 USD

If local is correct and the dvd player fits but is only half the height do as he suggested with cutting a blank drive bay cover. The first thing to verify is whether or not your dvd drive has tapped screw holes on the sides for mounting into the tower and that they line up with the holes in the tower drive rack. If it doesnt have holes in the right spot it might be for a laptop as local also suggested. Go to your local pc store and look around, you can usually find mounting hardware. different odd peices of metal that you can bolt to your tower that provide screw holes or you might be able to find something exactly for that product when being installed into a tower -vs- laptop or "off the wall pc" lol ive seen stuff like this. My mini tower is so full that i moved my 3 HD's down to the bottom by drilling holes and mounting them all side by side.
Got a link to the item you won at auction so we can check it out?

The entire size of the DVD is equivalent to the tray "itself" of my HP 6100 CD RW. I guess I could build out side panels to set to the tower but this is the most ignorant thing I've ever seen.

Here is the Ubid site I bid from. The picture isn't even close to what the unit was and, the unit was supposed to be a HP DVD player and when I got it it does not mention HP but rather TEAC.

Thought you might like to all know this. I've always called it "Bait and Switch"

Any thoughts

Write them or Call, and let them know. If they lied about the product then they have done a big Bozo no no. Do not pay to send it back to them. Do not pay a restocking fee. You are entitled to the correct product or your money back in FULL. I would fight them on this. There is a big differance between HP and TEAC. That would be like telling me your gonna sell me 256MB of Mushkin memory and then slipping me a stick of 128MB PNY memory. Fight them make calls, write letters. Call HP and let them know what this company is doing. Some companys get very irate when their name is used falsely or in a bad way. Have I said before, fight them? Do not get off that phone or stop writting letters until they fix the problem at no cost to you. my 30 cents.

I found a picture of your player. It is designed for HP Vectra computers, and is made so that basically only the door portion is showing. Note that they did tell you it was a slim, and that the picture may not be what it looked like. I would probably take the $60 offer. If it is slightly too wide, I have had to shave the plastic covers down a tad to fit tape backups, CDs, etc. This was a custom cd, so that may not work.
