yesterday I went and bought another hard drive, 40GB Western Digital, and set it up as a slave HD, secondary to the one I have already. Overall, it didn't work. My friend and I worked w/it some and no luck.
Info: the West.Dig is set up for slave, the other HD (Maxtor? 20GB) is set up for master, it turns on, starts to boot, I have a username/pass on there, put it in or not, once past that it freezes.
It starts to boot up for the desktop, then freezes after 1-3 seconds.
The computer recognizes the W.D. HD, and the Maxtor, as master/slave setup. It will boot up in Safe Mode just fine, and recognize both HDs under "my computer". Showing appropriate size for each.
I have (2)256MB, (1)128MB SDRAM PNY
and ME OSso now I'm stuck. any/all ideas would be very much appreciated, thank a lot

See if the memory cache size patch in Windows ME Fixes to the System.ini file solves the problem.
Try booting from a Windows ME boot diskette and running FDISK and then FORMAT on the second drive and see it that helps.

Found the problem. I tried it again
tonight and unplugged my mouse, USB,
and took out the new RAM (256MB, 133) I
had put in.
It started up fine. So I plugged the
mouse back in and restarted it via "Start"
menu, worked fine.
Shut it off, put the new mem in, and
restarted. Froze up.I think the new 256MB mem is bad.
Unless someone states/thinks
otherwise, I'm going to take it back. Thanks for the help!
