Subject: Size of Temporary Internet Files folder
Comment:

What is the best size for this folder for
optimal performance?
I have a 20G hard disk (rather empty) and
I spent 2-3 hours a day on line.No offline
browsing.
Should I empty this folder every time I close the browser?

Hi Georges
I have same disk size and spend about as much time as you online.
I keep my folder to 80mb and empty about once a week
I find this works ok for me

Yes.

" Some people have tens of thousands of files in the Temporary Internet Files folder, a known cause of browsing problems. Deleting these files may slow down the loading of a site the next time you visit it, but there are lots of files for sites you may never visit again. Here's how to keep files from building up in the first place: in Internet Explorer, click on Tools/Internet Options; on the Advanced tab make sure there's a check in the box next to "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed," click on Apply and OK." It shouldnt make a difference to speed of the browser if the files are stored and 'Check for newer version of the stored pages' is set for Never.

Tools/ Internet Options/Temp Internet Files/Settings.

If you are doing online trading and banking you have to avoid this but for non-critical sites its ok. When you open a stored page it will load faster and subsequently if you press F5 it will refresh to the newer version.

You can change the location to another drive also and allot more space. I have alloted 500MB in drive D: [windows is in C:] and it hasnt made a difference to the IE browser. Ofcourse I empty it manually when I do all the other maintenance.
