I had an old version of Norton AV and that stopped the PC from shutting down automatically. According to this forum, shut down problems are due in part to programs running in the back ground. See if you stop the un-necessary programs from loading at start up... http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm And also have a look at.... http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/24159.html I am not sure if there was an update from MS to cure Windows hangs... Update IE (if you have not alreday done so).
