Subject: Shutdown problem with ADSL

Comment: Ever since I have installed my Alcatel ethernet modem my PC won't power-off on 'shutdown'. The monitor does power off. If I start my PC without the ethernet connection then the problem goes away. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem with my ethernet card. As soon as you install the driver disk, ME won't shut down. I have cable internet, so I called the local provider and they came out and installed a different brand. ME already had the driver for this card, but it still wouldn't shut down. So, They decided to run it to the USB, and so far, I haven't had any problems. I'm geussing that you have an HP Pavilion with Windows ME also. If any 1 knows what may have caused this to happen, Please let us know. Thanks

Reply: (edit)No, I do not have an HP Pavilion. I have a normal Pentium 3 PC running under ME. Before I had ADSL I had ISDN and I had no problems. Before I do a shutdown, I disconnect my ADSL connection and only then I do a shutdown. As I said before, the monitor switches itself off but the processor remains on. If I start my OC without the ethernet cable then shutdown works as it should. So it appears that its trying to close atsk and it can't.
