I looked through the archives of people who had these messages after uninstalling IE 6. Did anyone ever find a fix for these?

The only fix I could think that may help you is to use System Restore to take the machine back to before the install of IE 6

My guess is at this point... you cannot reach the desktop at all... correct? Have you tried safe mode?
If you haven't, give safe mode a shot:
Reboot.
After the POST (memory check and *beep*) start tapping on the F8 key over and over.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.If you can get into safe mode, post back... there may be some help.
But if you cannot, this can get messy. The reason you do not see very many "solutions" to this issue is not because there isn't one... but this type of forum is rather prohibitive for something so complex. There are a couple of things you can try.
You can change the shell to progman.exe by editing the system.ini in DOS and try running system restore... to try this:
How to Start the System Restore Tool From a Command Prompt (Q279736)
If you can get into Progman.exe successfully, there are other things you can do from there also. For one, you can run appwiz.cpl and uninstall your antivirus software (most likely the cause of the blown uninstall of IE). This will ensure that the antivirus software stops protecting you so well and maybe you can get this to work.
If you get your antvirus uninstalled, you could also attempt to perform the following Q article to rename the migration files for Internet Explorer and remove them from the registry... then reinstall Windows over the top of itself:
How to Remove Internet Explorer 6.0 or Outlook Express 6.0 Before You Reinstall Windows (Q312474)
If you can get up into progman.exe, you can run regedit by typing it into the run line.
The problem at this point is that your computer has several different versions of files for explorer on it (as internet explorer and explorer are basically the same applicaton... ummm... that's why Bill is still in trouble). Explorer is your desktop. Explorer cannot start because it is confused.
Your altimate goal here is to get the explorer files to be all one version.
Good luck!

I get error "EXPLORER CAUSED AN INVALID PAGE FAULT IN MODULE SHELL32.DLL AT 0187:7FCB1946"
, in one of the win98 computer in my organization.
The user had opened excel files before she started getting this error.
Can you pls provide some specific solution to it. I mean, like, specific to address at which the page fault is caused. I deleted all the unwanted files from the computer.
Is there something to be done in system.ini or win.ini file.
Pls suggest

I had the exact same probs...today! After trying to get my downloaded IE 6 repaired by my add/remove program (windows ME; Packard Bell iconnect) I got error message "Internet Explorer 6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors; "Version 5.50 4134.600 needs to be greater than 6.0.2600.0" When I tried to go back to the original configuration, I got this message "An error or exception occured while calling the function "Dlllnstall" in "C.\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shdocuw.dll"
When I tried to close down, I got this one...(!!!) Explorer has caused an error in Shell32.DLL Explorer will now close.
And close it did! I couldnt access ANYTHING! Not in safe mode or any other mode; that error message window just kept coming up, and closing me down. I finally had to use my Packard Bell Recovery floppy disc, and lost ALL my data. oh, and by the way....I'm STILL getting the original probs that I thought repairing IE6 would solve! ie>>frequent *hanging* with cmesys; loadqm; Em-exec; systray; slights; osd and Explorer all "not responding, even after rebooting and scandisk! Yes, STILL getting them after a complete recovery *back to factory specifications* ...something is defo wrong with Windows ME and any version of Explorer!
