My computer has been infected with worms and viruses! I tried to install a virus checker "Avast", and the windows version would not let me clean viruses from services.exe and rundll32.exe has been deleted, and so office and other programs in control panel do not run. Tried using dos version of virus checker from Avast and it found no viruses or worms.

Either could someone reccommend a stonking good dos boot disk /dos mode virus checker; or could someone help me by sending directing me to a site where i can download these files or send me attachments in an email to david.peacock@kcl.ac.uk

i tried checking the windows me setup disk, and these files cannot be found, even inside the cab files.

david.peacock, my guess is that your nasty is hiding in restore and getting put back each time you restart. Suggest you disable restore (be aware that when you disable, you destroy ALL restore points, no biggie IMHO), do a scan for nasties, then restart restore.

To disable the system restore utility > right click on My Computer , click on properties ,then click on the box that says File System ,then the troubleshooting tab ,put a check mark in the disable system restore, reboot your system .This will purge all of your resotre points including the one holding the virus ! After this ,remove the check mark (reboot again) and create a restore point ,by opening up the restore utility, and picking the create restore point option !
Good Luck Nick

Norton anti-virus has DOS based removal tools and is about the best on the market.
