Serious Ndis.vxd problems.

I recently installed the step-up edition of Windows ME. After it was done installing, the computer would freeze after one of the many restarts that it insists on doing to install all my drivers. Through tons of trial and error I figured out that the file ndis.vxd was causing the problem. Whenever it was disabled by going through step-by-step confirmation boot-up process, my computer worked just fine. I'm using a 3Com 10/100 PCI NIC(3C905-TX) and a LT Winmodem, both of which worked fine under Windows 98SE. There are no hardware conflicts, but they don't work without ndis.vxd being loaded. I've tried downloading the latest drivers, removing the network card completely and booting up, uninstalling and reinstalling dial-up networking completely, and a dozen other weird ideas that popped into my mind while I was up 'til 2:00 in the morning. Anyway, if anyone else is having this problem or has a solution for me, please either reply through this forum, or email me at: nuker10@hotmail.com. Tons of thanks to anyone who can solve this problem. Remember, if you solve this problem, consider yourself smarted than the microsoft tech support gurus, because I tried getting a solution out of them, but all they gave me were ideas I already tried, and now they won't write me back. And I really don't want to have to format my hard drive and do a complete reinstallation of all my stuff. PLEASE HELP!

Could try adding Internet Connection Sharing as that uses Ndis.vxd too. It might shake the thing into life, it sometimes works.

I also use the 3Com 10/100 PCI NIC(3C905-TX). I see no issues with it. I have herd that issues exist with winmodems. Go to this page http://www.808hi.com/56k/ltwin3.htm#me
aparently you might need some different drivers...they give instructions

It's not you modem, but your ISP. They are still using win 98 drv.s.I am on CS and had to delete thier software+the win 98 drv's.I added the new drivers to the CS folder and I re ran the CS software. My problem was that i could not access the web with the MS Evplorer but still get VWIN32 errors .Got to get mcAfee out of DOS.

I disagree w/the ISP response. Though I'm using a PCMCIA 3Com Winmodem. Finally got it to work, and is even recognized by ME, but it is when I stop using it, my system hangs. This happens at the end of a diagnostic, w/out ISP.

I have recently been receiving the following error:
An exception 0E has occured at 0028:6120726F in VxD ---. This was called
from 0028:C001C3d4 in VxD NDIS(01) + 00004860.

It occurs when I try to access a website with heavy Java. The one that I frequently try is www.localmovies.com

I am running Win98 SE and have the 3Com 10/100 PCI NIC(3C905B-TX), using ADSL.

It occurs whether I use Netscape of IE. My system hangs and/or gives me the above error.
I am still trouble shooting the issue.

If anyone knows of something before I find the fix, please let me know.

Similar problem, but no net work card. I have and Alcatel DSl modem and A Zoom 56k. I have not loaded on any isp software that I know of. My error is:

An exception 0E has occured at 0028:F000F841 in VxD ---. This was called
from 0028:C001D188 in VxD NDIS(01) + 00005AAD.

However, I choose continue and the machine boots up. The problem is on a new formatted hardrive and was there before the DSL was loaded.

I have the same Alcatel DSL modem as you and it seems to be an ongoing problem with WindowsME and the NDIS vxd file. they need to come up with a fix'd vxd file for this....this problem is not because of your modems or NIC cards....everything ran fine with mine until I installed WinME

oh wow! would you believe i'm getting the same NDIS problem on a Win95 machine - usually modem related - but not always. I thought it was IE5.5 (never had problem b4 with IE5.1) so I got rid of %.5 and am back with 5.1 (which is more stable) - BUT I just got the NDIS prob again !! - also getting a PPPMAC.VxD associated crash

What the f.....?
It seems to be a common problem with this Ndis.vxd driver.
I have the same problem, but I'm using a Billion ISDN int. card and a Cnet PRO200WL NIC.
The MS knowledgebase has a "troubleshooting" article about this issue, but it did't help(of cause).

Why does not MS come with ME upgrades on their Update page?
This sucks!

Pretty much the same problem !!!!

Seems like the ndis.vxd that comes with WMe sucks wind.

And I've tried three different network interface cards... Discarded two LinkSys cards and ended up with a 3Com product that seems to behave better.

Nonetheless, I find that every few weeks I have to:
1) Boot up without ndis.vxd (step-by-step boot up mode)
2) UN-Install my NIC and TCP/IP
3) Re-install my NIC (reboot)
4) Re-install TCP/IP (reboot)

Then all is well with the world for a few more weeks ...

Let me know if someone finds a fix!

Im getting the same problem as Calypso problem in VXD ---. My computer will run fine after that, most of the time...
I have a 3COM Etherlink TPO NIC (3C900B-TPO). After this problem i have been getting many other .exe problems, such in my kernel32.exe and my user.exe
