Hi,

I am using the Windows ME OS and i think i have contracted some kind of virus or something. I was actually trying to help a friend by downloading a antivirus program to see if it would work on my system before he downloaded it. Well, when it finished downloading, i tried to open it but it did nothing. The only thing that happened was that the system just "ran" continusouly.

Then, when i went to open a "file sharing" program later in the day, i noticed that a new folder had been added to my "shared folders" list. it was C:/Windows/myshares. I went to look for it and found that it was a "hidden" folder. When i opened it, there were all sorts of wierd files in there that i have never downloaded or seen before. Some of these files are "porn" and id like them off. The icon for all the files in the folder are the same as the one for the "antivirus program" i downloaded. It is an icon ive never seen on my system before today.

When you click on any of the files in the folder, they do nothing but make the computer "run" and every time i have deleted the 800+ files, they come back along with more stuff ive never seen!!

How can i stop my system from "running continuously" when it is supposed to be "idle" and how can i stop these files from re-creating after they have been deleted. Is this a virus or what is wrong?

If you indeed have a virus, you may not be able to install any anti-virus software.

There are several free online virus scanners available.

Try one of those...

C:/Windows/myshares folder is created by the
W32.HLLW.Purol worm.

See here how to sort it.....
