Subject: Search For Files or Folders does not work
Comment:

When I try to use the "Search For Files or Folders" option on the Start menu to search for files on my hard drives nothing happens.

I've tried using PF3, the "enter" key and clicking on the "Search Now" push button. But nothing happens.

I've reinstalled Windows ME, twice, including reformatting my hard drive inbetwen re-installs - but still the search does nothing!!

Any ideas please...?

I had the same problem. Repeated installations (note "repeated" -- yes, this buggy piece of garbage crashes a lot) never solved the problem. This was not an upgrade but a preinstalled ME on a new computer. Go figure.

I did a register restore from a couple of days earlier and that worked but, I had to reinstall things that were installed after the restore date

At least I'm not alone. I'm running WinME and as of about a week ago the "files and folder" search function also stopped working. Have not been able to fix it either. Very much a pain! Hope someone has a fix!!!!! All the other search options work.

Found the fix:

Install tweakUI from Microsoft, once installed open it and go to the "DESKTOP" tab, scroll down to "Show Search Results". Place an check mark in this box. Somehow there are some progs out there that screw with this setting.

JustMe2B, you are a lifesaver..
Was having the same damn problem, called Dell, and those high paid geezers couldn't figure it out...
They gave me 2 options: re-format, or re-install WindowsME. Thank god I didn't listen to them and looked up this board.

TweakUI fixed it for me, hope it helps you too..

PS: can't believe how many people had that problem...yet another strike for WinME
