I am trying to Search for Files or Folders. I type in the filename to search for and click the Search Now button, but nothing happens, whatever file I am searching for, i.e. even one that I know exists in the specified location. It does not even access my hdd - nothing whatsoever happens when I click the Search Now button.
I am running Win ME 4.90.3000.
Also have Norton AntiVirus 2001, ZoneAlarm Pro 1.0 running. Norton Utilities 2001 installed. System Restore is disabled in the System / Performance tab.It was working some days ago, but has now stopped responding.

Its to bad that you disabled system restore. You can try this to get running. First uninstall everything from Norton. Then uninstall Zone Alarm. Enable system restore.
Boot into safe mode. Now run a through scandisk(check the options and enable everything). Reboot, now check to see if find files and folders is working. If yes than cheer. If no then read on. Insert your Windows-ME CDROM. Go to start/run and type with out quotation marks "C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\SETUP.exe"
now relax as the Windows setup prog. begins.
When asked what directory choose C:\Windows ONLY.....are you sure YES....you allready have one.....(here you wish you could smack it)When asked if you want to save the existing system files you could but say no since if this dosen't work then you need to preform a full install. It should work none of your files or apps will be harmed(hopefully)......well its your call good luck

Went thru a lot of grief with the same problem. Finally some guru on the net solved it for me.
If you have tweakui in your system, go to the desktop tab, scroll down to "search results" and make sure the box is checked.Max
