My computer monitor occasionally shuts off...the monitor has been thoroughly checked and/or all settings... But when it seinzes up and goes off (the screen..that is then the monitor's power display light goes from green to orange illumination. When I power the monitor down and back on...it still shuts right back off to the orange illumination near the monitor's power switch. Each time the monitor has lost it's screen and goes to this mode, I also noticed that the DVD light on the DVD player of the CPU is illuminated/stays locked on...THAT IS...the DVD small display light is illuminated in a steady green...also the DVD player is froze up and doesn't work. When I completely power down the entire CPU, then I can recover the screen back and the light on the DVD player is off/plus DVD is working normal again....what's the connection? and how do I stop the shutting down of the monitor screen? Is it the video card? The ethernet card? or what problem is it? It usually happens while on the internet or using games...I have plenty of cooling fans installed and air flow in the room...so it ain't a monitor overheating problem...the monitor just seems to sinze up and go off and the DVD player becomes frozen with the light solidly illuminated on. You can't do anything to recover the screen and or DVD player but do a full powerdown reboot of the system.
Any ideas? Some folks say it might be the bios and that I might need a BIOS update? What is that and how do i get these updates if that is the problem? Please reply to my email at wballard@cox-internet.com if you can assist me with this problem.
Thanks...
Bill B.

try updating,or reinstalling video driver, chech device manager for a question mark next to display or monitor.

Is the computer going into standby mode? That could happen when watching a DVD since it may think the computer is idle. Is there another monitor that you could connect when the problem happens, to see if the problem is related to the PC or the monitor?
