Unless I'm mistaken,(which I've been known to be),the power management option kicks in based on inactivity.A screensaver is "activity",as far as your PC is concerned.

I also have my monitor set to "power down" after 20 mins.If/when I use a screensaver (as they're basically unnecessary these days),my monitor does not power down.

You are wrong. It just started doing this. The screen saver can come on and then the monitor can go off so many mins after. If it couldn't they would not put it in the settings.

Well,on my system,I just set a screensaver at 1 minute, and set the monitor to power down after 2 minutes. After 2 attempts to let Windows do it's thing,my monitor did not shut down,as the screensaver kept running...

I can tell you this though...any power management option is not the most reliable in WinME,IMHO.

Christopher-
Kid-
Kid you are correct. Christopher you might try using hibernate if you really want your monitor to go off.
Once you turn your monitor on you should never turn it off. Capacitors getting hot and then cooling down is the worst thing for monitor. That alone will take months off a monitors lifespan ( norm 3 yrs). Monitors are made to run.. not sit.

Christopher- I appollogize, I wasnt implying by any means you were dumb, nor did I say you were wrong. I agree with Kid on the fact that your screen saver is an activity, and if you set your monitor to power off after a period of inactivity, it would stand to reason that it is not going off because it is never inactive. If you notice I said you might try setting it to go into hibernation, just that in my expiriance with monitors it usually is best to leave them on for as long as possible and to try to move them around as little as poossible

ChristopherTGarrett,

Hi,

What you have been doing IS possible. Don't even need the power profiles checked :) My opinion :)

I guess my question/s to you would be, "Have you installed anything recently?" Like a game or some kind of program (i.e. disk utility)

Also, what kind of screen saver and where did you get it. That's if it's not one included with the OS.

I guess to clear up The BIG question. Have you changed anything, just before this problem started?

NO i have not changed anything but im about to.Im changeing back to 98E.Windows ME is just way to buggy.Man if i run Norton Disk optimizer to Optimize my disk it reboots right? When windows comes back up i have to reset the active desktop.Even if i hit ctrl alt delete for the reset button i have to reset Active desktop.I call that very Unstable OS.
