Comment: my scanner is a UMAX Astra2000P. I use the software VistaScan for my scanner. But now when i goto open VistaScan, the program crashes and displays a blue screen on my computer. The scanner seems fine, but i believe that it;s a software problem. Any ideas on how to fix this? (i've re-installed the program already like 6times) thanks

Reply: (edit)If this is an older scanner, forget about it. Older scanners do not work well if at all with Me. Time to buy a new one.

Reply: (edit)one more thought... how did you install the scanner?.. did you use "scanners and cameras"? or "add new hardware".... try to uninstal it, and use "add new hardware and force the driver for windows 98 from the installation CD... sometimes 98 drivers work... if not get a new scanner... the price is not worth the effort and aggravation with windows ME compatibility Regards Miro

Reply: (edit)By not creating ME drivers for their older hardware the manufacturers can guarantee that you will have to buy a new scanner. Show them what you think of this by emailing them that you are going to buy from another manufacturer ;^D

Reply: (edit)Won't work! I went through that with Umax and my perfectly good scanner. Bought an Epson scanner which works perfectly but how many people went through the same with Epson and bought a Umax?

Reply: (edit)i would not blame scanner manufacturers (or any other hardware manufacturers in general) they could not know 2 or 3 years ago when they made these products that microsoft will come with a winodws ME that will cripple it... to create new drivers and to provide bandwith for people to download them.. and to provide tech support for the additional phone calls generated by windows ME incompatibility is putting additional strain on their budgets. windows ME is a halfproduct that either due to incompetence or intentionally cripples older hardware or software... read the writing on the windows ME installation box... it does not warn you of any incompatibilties... not even the lack of real dos mode is disclosed... it is a case of false advertizement... a milk producer would not be allowed to lie so grossly on a milk bottle label Regards Miro

Reply: (edit)yea, i agree with Miroslav Vadovic, although i love computers, and everything about them, I don't like how Microsoft likes to do whatever it wants with its monopoly. thanks everyone. Most probably, i'll put this scanner with my second computer that has Win98 and buy another scanner for this one.

Reply: (edit)I have a Umax 2000P Astra and it works great, this is what I was told when I first installed it with me, go exactely by the easy install booklet, install the software first just as it says, then after you install the scanner if it does not work unplug that little black square plug in the wall for about 2 minutes then turn it back on I will look for my past instructions if you want I just reinstalled it again and no problem if you are missing the book its a small flyer I have it, this is the printer port I leave my scanner pluged in to computer and printer in the back of the scanner, while installing scanner undo the cable from the printer to the scanner until you get it installed and it is recognized and do the test. any problems let me know. Sue (Its a great scanner and great photo deluxe, I have the 3.0 do you have the 4.0, maybe we can do a trade. Sue

Reply: (edit)I also forgot to post when you install Adobe Photo Deluxe, you are not suppose to install the ATM Fonts and no Explorer 4.0, if you already have IE Explorer greater installed, its not necessary. dollsbysue@hotmail.com if you need help, no need to buy any other scanner. Sue
