Everytime I run scandisk it restarts 10 times and never finishes. I have everything in the background turned off even systray. The only thing running is the explorer interface and of course scandisk. I never had this problem with windows 98 se.
Any ideas ?
Oh yeah by the way it even does this in safe mode.

Try running it from a DOS promt,using a boot disk.C:\scandisk then press enter.

You may have a corrupted hard drive. Try Norton Disk Doctor.

My Windows Me does exactly the same. i have never had any problems before installing it. Now I have tried to remove Me, but it needs to run a Scandisk before it can be uninstalled. The Scandisk never finishes.... ARRHHGGG!!

Do one of two things: Click Start, Run, and in the dialog box type msconfig and then click OK. Click the tab that says Startup.
Uncheck everything but, SystemTray, (1) LoadPowerProfile, and ScanRegisrty.
Click Apply and then OK.
If Windows asks you if you want to restart click Yes.
If the Windows locks after this step don't worry. If you have to shut off the power to get the system to restart do so.
Once Windows has rebooted try to shutdown.
OR Run scandisk from safe mode

Try closing as most as possible programs, even those who are in the right corner of the bottom of your screen (virusscanner, icq,...). Then run scandisk

I have WIN ME and Norton System works 2001. Whenever I try to run Norton Disk Doctor it gives me this message (when the scanner is on) "restarting due to diskwrite" "Norton Disk Doctor has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable Norton Disk Doctor to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning?" Please help!
