Scandisk won't run

Hello, i have windows millenium edition and I can't get my scandisk to run. It was working fine and now i keep getting this error message Scandskw has caused an error in SHELL.DLL Can someone please help me fix this? Thank you

1.Go to Start > Run and type msconfig in the Open: box 2.On the General tab, uncheck all items listed under Selective startup (make sure that Selective startup is selected) 3.Hit apply and OK and restart Windows 4.This starts Windows with only the basics running; Insures nothing will interfere with ScanDisk and Defrag 5.Run ScanDisk and Defrag, after running scandisk, then go into msconfig and select Normal startup and restart Windows

Hello, thank you for your help. I tried what you said and still the same thing happens. I try to open scandisk and it gives me two different errors. Scandskw has caused an error in Shell.DLL and will close, and Scandskw has caused an error in Scandskw.exe and will close. Can you or anyone else help me? Thank you.
