Scandisk won't run

Comment:
I have Windows ME and I can't run Scandisk, and I've tried it in safemode and in normal windows after endtasking everything but explorer and/or systray. It says an error of something like "Scandisk has restarted 10 times, do you want to terminate this program" that's not it exactly but its something to that effect, I haven't run it in a while so I can't remember exactly. Has anybody else had this problem or do you have any ideas?? Thanks

i ran it in dos, went thru OK, then my friend accidentally started it in windows (told him to defrag it, oh well) but it went throught - although VERY slowly. Guess Its all good now, there was a problem w/ some space w/ no info I guess, its fixed now though.

I was having the same problem, but in order for it to work, I had to turn off the screen saver & right click the quick-launch icons on the bar at the bottom of the screen and disable all of them. I believe that the major culprit was the Messaging programs (MSN Messenger, Yahoo Chat & ICQ).

richard, I was running it in safemode, so nothing is running at all except absolutely necessary stuff (explorer). I think its all good now though. Thanks Freak, I have hope for next time!

The best way I ahve found is to start ME in "Safe Mode" and run Scandisk and Defrag from there. For me it has worked everyting without problems.
Summary: Safemode doesn't seem to change a thing for me. The Scandisk just crashes during a run and Defrag won't even start? :-( Thanks for your reply, Brad ...
Summary: one thing first, I know this might sound a little picky but Windows won't run not your computer your computer is fine If you had a registry backup from before ME that might help. Have you tried safe-...
