Earlier today I got a virus on my system. Luckily my AVG anit-virus caught the bugger and I was able to put the infected file in my vault.
Seeing that the file was in my windows/ie5/temp directory I felt safe deleting it from my system.Tonight, however, my computer was locking up and programs kept on (not responding). So I decided to go and pick a system restore point to revert my computer to about a week ago.
It got about halfway through the process and then it just froze up. I tried a scandisk and the same thing happened.I also noticed that when I tried to log on to my DSL line that my connection gave me an error that said "DSL connection no longer exists."
I created a new one to get around the problem and since I'm posting on-line I guess it's working okay but I fear that this too will start to have errors.Any ideas as to why my System Restore or Scan Disk might be geting locked up? Is it virus related or should I try other steps first.
Also I know that it normally would make sense to post this in the virus forum, but I'm 75% sure that it's not a virus related thing. I figure the AVG software would've probably caught it since i ran it 3 times and check for updates to make sure there wasn't more than one virus on my system.
Any ideas to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I would first try diasabling system restore, which,of course will purge all previous restore points...reboot,try to then run scandisk and defrag. In safe mode,if necessary. Then, enable system restore, reboot, and see what happens.
You may even want to read the post 2 down from yours, since they also mention a scandisk lockup. Not sure they're related, but you both seemed to mention somewhat similar syptoms.
Please let us know what you try,and any results.
