Scandisk freezes while running

Scandisk freezes while running. I need to run this first before running Defrag. So I'm stuck, any ideas.

Hottoddy, step one is to turn your screensaver off as it must access your drive and scandisk & defrag can be really sensitive about that (don't forget to restart if you want to use it). Step two is to see if it will run in safe mode. That configuration loads only the essentials and forgoes such things as drivers, etc. Many times, that'll allow sensitive things to run. HTH.
