scandisk freezes up

I am trying to run scandisk on my windows me computer, but I cannot get it complete the process. It gets about 75% percent complete then it just freezes up. I tried running scandisk in safe mode with the same result. It just hangs up and will not finish. I have to use ctrl alt delete to quit scandisk because it continually freezes up. Any idea what I can do to get scandisk running properly.

I had a very similar problem run it in dos and see what it finds if it finds any errors try to fixed them.!!
